Kopi C App is upgraded for iOS 7

This is the very first experimental app that I created.  It's finally a good time to revisit this app.  I have clean up the items so that all items have no price since the price was never accurate before.  It is quite easy to recompile and publish the old app.  Now the latest version 2.2.1 of Kopi C App supports both iOS6 and iOS7.

Supporting iOS 7 with Three Quarter Tank Version 1.2.1

iOS 7 screens are amazing clean and elegant.

It took me a while to get used to the new Xcode 5.0 today. It's not too difficult but I got to read through the iOS 7 UI Transition Guideline to understand how to support both iOS 6 and 7.  I will support iOS 6 for limited period of 6 months.  After which, I will only support iOS 7.

Three Quarter Tank Guide

Getting Ready with Current Tank

First, you need to know your car fuel efficiency in the unit of km/litre.

Secondly, you need to observe mileage from full tank to 3/4 tank.  Do the following,
  1. Top up to Full Tank.  Reset your car mileage meter to zero if possible, enter 0 km @ Full Tank using the App.  If you are not able to reset your car mileage meter to zero, you may enter the actual mileage.
  2. Observe the mileage when the fuel gauge drop to 3/4 tank.  Enter the mileage @ 3/4 using the App.
  3. After you have done the above steps, you are ready to calculate top up amount.
Getting Ready to Calculate Top Up Amount

Calculate Top Up Amount to 3/4 Tank

At the petrol kiosk, do the followings
  1. Enter your car fuel efficiency
  2. Enter petrol unit cost
  3. Enter current milage
  4. Enter distance to custom
The top up amount should be automatically calculated after you entered the above values.  If not calculated, press Calculate.

It is advisable to top up at kiosk nearer to Singapore custom for the first few times.  After you grasped the concept of using this App, you may try to top up at petrol kiosk nearer to your home.

Three Quarter Tank Tips

Tips to improve accuracy
  1. The fuel efficiency reading from car dashboard may no be accurate. You may want to do your own profiling.
  2. Always reset your distance meter to zero after you top up the petrol.
  3. Enter the mileage when the fuel gauge drop to 3/4 tank. This value may vary for every tank due to how full the previous top up was and different traffic condition.
  4. Always check if the petrol unit price has change.
  5. Enter the estimated distance to custom.  It is even better if you check the actual driving distance using Map Apps. If you are making a detour, you need to add in the detour distance.
Factors affecting the accuracy of calculated top up amount
  1. Fuel efficiency may vary according to actual traffic condition.
  2. Fuel gauge is usually very sensitive at 3/4 tank and a small distance travelled may cause it to drop drastically.
  3. Fuel gauge could be sensitive to slope especially when the vehicle is travelling up or down slope.
  4. Unexpected traffic jam on the way to Singapore custom may accelerate the drop of fuel gauge below 3/4 tank.

Charity Food Packing

I have been following Project Awareness on Facebook.  Among the many post, I really like this phrase "Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself".  From Project Awareness Facebook page, I can see that there are many people that we can care for, just within the neighbourhood.  I think most people care and willing to offer help.  However, we may not know who they are but I am sure if we knows, we will be more than willing to offer a helping hand or give them something they need or wish for.

Happiness is a perfume

For many old folks, good old food brings back fond memories and they wish to visit their favourite food stall.  However, they may not be able to enjoy their favourite food due to many reasons such as poverty, inability to move around, etc.  How nice if some kind soul can help to pack food for them?  A pack of food can be more than just food... it is a "food connection" if the packer also spend time chatting with the old folks.

I believe that I can contribute in providing a "food connection" platform between these old folks and people who are kind enough to offer help.  I have created HappyPacker App as an initiative to promote community food packing at a small token fee.  I am planning to extend it to feature charity food packing.  For this to work, I need help from voluntary organisation to identify the people that need food.  The volunteers also helps to ensure that there is no duplicate packing to avoid food wastage.

HappyPacker is currently available on Apple Appstore for iPhone.  However, the current version does not support have the new feature yet.  I plan to launch the following feature if I can find a social enterprise to work with.

These are the 5 simples steps in posting a food packing request, which can be discussed and refined.
Step 1. Volunteer to setup profile of
food pack recipient
Step 2. Choose a profile picture
Step 3. Volunteer post Following
on food.
Step 4. Packers see the post and
contact volunteer for details.
Step 5. Packer send SMS to volunteer
and the volunteer coordinates to
make sure no duplicate food packings.
